Sweláps Market

We were honoured to be involved in construction of Sweláps Market, a new $13.2-million grocery store owned and operated by Tk’emlups te Secwepemc (TteS). It was built in the southwest corner of the Highway 5 and Shuswap Road intersection, north of the South Thompson River near Kamloops, BC.

The 22,000 sq. ft. grocery store incorporates culture into the architecture, including a Secwépemc weaving design on the ceiling and a wooden ladder outside which resembles the entrance of a pithouse. We customized the front canopy around the offset log posts and wooden ladder, and installed soffits around all of the architectural details.

We completed all exterior and interior steel stud framing, drywall, taping, and specialty wheel and basket ceiling hangings. The B.A.P. crew was the first-ever installer of a custom Armstrong Serpentine curved ceiling system in a basket weave design.
